Guest list tiers
Every opening night guest list starts as a wish list and ends as a seating chart with feelings. Tiers turn it into decisions: who gets a pair, who gets the party, and who gets a gracious no. Sort first, seat second, and you will only have to apologize a few times.
The tiers
| Tier | Who’s in it | What they get | Seating & tickets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Company & creative team | Cast, understudies, stage management, director, designers, writers, and music team | Opening night gift, party invitation, and thanks in any speech | Creative team seated together; company comps as contracts or house policy allow |
| Producers & investors | Lead producers, co-producers, investors, and their guests | Pre-show reception and party invitation | Prime orchestra seats; ticket counts per their agreements |
| Press | Critics, arts editors, broadcast and digital reviewers, and photographers | Press kit, a dedicated check-in lane, and a contact for the night | Pairs on the aisle where possible; seats assigned by the press rep |
| Board & major donors | Board members, major donors, and foundation and government funders | Pre-show reception, party invitation, and a personal thank-you | Center orchestra or front mezzanine; pairs by default |
| Industry & VIP | Agents, casting directors, fellow producers, artistic directors, and notable guests | Party invitation and the VIP lane at check-in | Pairs or singles from a held block, seated by the box office |
| Friends & family | Guests of the cast, crew, staff, and creative team | Comps or discounted tickets per policy; party access if space allows | Requested through the company manager; rear orchestra or mezzanine |
| Partners & sponsors | Corporate sponsors, media partners, and venue and community partners | Recognition, reception, and party invitations as contracted | Seat counts per agreement; grouped so hosts can find them |
| House seats held for sale | Premium seats held back by the box office | First call for producers, creatives, and VIPs to buy at full price | Unclaimed seats released to general sale on an agreed date |
